Dear Friends,
We have something very special planned for this coming Mothers Day and we are inviting
you to come and join us. On May 11th, 2008 we will be hosting the 5th Annual Jeanne
Alter Memorial 3 Mile Run, also know as “Pace Yourself for Parkinsons.” The race which
is named after our mother Jeanne, came about after she passed away from PSP, a rare
form of parkinson's in March 2003. We extend this invitation to you in the hopes that you
will come out and support us, either by volunteering, running, sponsoring, or donating a gift
certificate from your establishment.
The race will be held, at Brookdale Community College, Lincroft, N.J. Over the past 4
years, we have raised nearly $23,000 for the Parkinson’s Disease Research Society
“PDRS”. We have also set up an endowment fund at Brookdale CC. Each year a student
receives a $500 scholarship in Jeanne Alter’s name. This past year’s Recipient was Dawn
Gardella.
The PDRS is a non-profit organization and has the distinction of developing the world’s
first Parkinson’s Disease Early Detection Center. Being our 5th anniversary we want to
make this race special for everyone attending. Our returning sponsors include: Blue Water
Finance, Athletes Alley, Nike, Road ID, Raceway Park, Foodtown, Sea Streak, New
Balance and Brookdale Community College and we hope to include you in that list. Your
sponsorship / donation is tax deductible and will benefit the PDRS.
Great strides are being made daily in diagnosing, in treating and in finding a cure for
Parkinson’s. The Early Detection Center has already seen more then 5 patients. This has
been made possible because of the generosity and support we have received over the last 4
years at our race.
Your support will set the path for tomorrow’s journey. In the coming years we will
continue to move forward. We will continue to build momentum. We will continue on our
track to help fight this devastating disease. We will continue to make a difference in the
